The Lobos Island
Natural Park is located just 3 kilometers (1.7 nautical
miles) from the port of Corralejo in Fuerteventura and 8 km
from Lanzarote, in the Strait of Bocayna, with only 10 meters
deep.
Its name comes from the abundance
of Monk Seals (Sea Lions), who inhabited these waters 500 years
ago, and were hunted by the first conquerors of the islands of
Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.
It is a volcanic
island formed 135.000 years ago, giving it the distinction of
being the youngest area of Fuerteventura.
Natural park since 1982 and
has free use zones, moderate use and restricted use, and its
surface is 470 ha.
It
houses valuable habitats, in excellent state of
preservation which includes many endemic
species, unique species or paleontological sites. The presence
of the evergreen endemic Limonium ovalifolium canariensis. In
addition, much of its flora is currently protected by various
regulations.

To
access the Isla de Lobos have
to embark on one of the boats of Grupo Lobos from
Corralejo departing several times a day (telephone: 699687294 /
/ 619307949 / / 646531068) (website: http://www. islalobos.es .
This company has up to 150 passenger ships, boats specially
designed and built by engineers and carpenters with wood,
polyester or fiberglass and materials for boating too close
to the coast. For his size, strength and maneuverability, are
suitable for the passenger to see and enjoy the coast,
sailing in shallow water, in addition to town to see
transparent sea with its rich fauna and flora.

Its surface is traversed
by roads enabled the visitor, not being allowed to leave thoseroads. Stresses on
these routes Del Puertito, Playa de la Caleta, Caldera Mountain (127meters)
and the "Volcano Malpais" covering much of its surface.
In addition to significant flora and endemic species
(evergreen, Uvilla de Mar), this area has the status of Special
Protection Area for Birds.
Permission granted by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, it is
possible to camp for a maximum of three nights.
